About Us

Carefree Animal Hospital was founded in 1970 by Dr. Brent R. Baker.  We are a small practice, focusing on quality, not quantity.  We pride ourselves on personalized attention and excellence in client service. 



BRENT R. BAKER, D.V.M.

Dr. Baker graduated Colorado State University with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1964.  An Arizona native, Doc opened Carefree Animal Hospital in 1970.  He has a profound interest and ability in all aspects of small animal medicine.  Dr. Baker was a Captain, and served with the Green Berets in Vietnam, where his primary mission was civic action.  He was a scuba instructor for the Special Forces.  Dr. Baker has been involved with various pet therapy programs in the valley.  He has also donated countless hours to help human medical clinics in Mexico with the Flying Samaritans, transporting medical personnel to primitive villages in his small airplane.  Doc’s favorite hobby is artistic woodworking.  He has a dog, a cat, and a horse.



RICHARD C. BRADY, Ph.D., D.V.M.

Dr. Brady is a 1990 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University.  He practiced in Texas and New Jersey before moving to Arizona in 2004.  Dr. Brady has owned two hospitals and has a special interest in orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, reproductive medicine, internal medicine, oncology (cancer treatment) and exotic animal medicine (birds and small mammals).  Prior to veterinary school, he earned a PhD in cell biology and both taught and did research at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

Dr. Brady is also proud to have served on the board of directors for the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association for 4 years.
